ABOUT US

He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
What is the most important thing in the world?

It is people, it is people, it is people.

A well known proverb in Maori culture: these values aren’t abstract concepts — they are practical, relational, and embedded in the rhythms of life. They shape how decisions are made, how knowledge is passed on, how conflict is resolved, and how community is built.

At Oasis Zone, we carry these foundations into everything we do. These Māori values aren’t just part of our identity — they are how we lead, how we serve, and how we create spaces where young people are supported, empowered, and truly belong. They guide us in building a future where people always come first.

Our Values

Whanaungatanga

Connection, belonging and relationships

We believe in the power of relationships. Whanaungatanga is about building meaningful connections that go beyond blood ties — creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and part of a wider whānau (family).

Kotahitanga

Unity and collective strength

We are stronger together. Kotahitanga calls us to work as one — united by shared goals, purpose, and aroha (love). We collaborate, uplift each other, and move forward as a collective.

rangatiratanga

Leadership and self-determination

Rangatiratanga is about leading with integrity and empowering others to do the same. It’s the freedom to stand in your own authority, take ownership of your path, and influence change with courage and wisdom.

Ako

Reciprocal learning and growth

Ako teaches us that everyone has something to offer. Learning goes both ways — we grow alongside the young people we walk with, listening, sharing, and creating together.
